Doris Gail Ellison

Doris G. (nee:Griffin) Ellison, 69, was born into eternal life April 2, 2023 at 7:47 pm surrounded by the love of her family. Doris was born in McCracken County, Kentucky on October 16, 1953 to the late Artis and Hattie Louise (nee:Milburn) Griffin. Doris accepted Christ at an early age at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Racine, Wisconsin. Doris received her education in Racine, Wisconsin.

Doris sang in the Sunbeam choir and on the usher board which she became the president. January 1973, she married Roma Lee Dillard and had two sons Romain Chandler Dillard, and Cinque Elliott Dillard both of California. After her divorce she moved to Chulsa Vista, California in July 1982 with her three children.  She worked for Kelly Services and Jack N The Box. Later they moved to Riverside, California and she started working for Pick and Save. Left Pick and Save in 1986 to start working for the Department of Corrections. On January 31, 1987, she married Douglas Ellison and, in that marriage, she had three sons James DaVaughn Ellison, and Jason Thornton Ellison, Dominique Atwon Nichols and one daughter Audrey Victoria Renee Williamson all of California. 

Doris united with Grace Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and was on the Usher Board, Finance Committee. She left Grace Bethel and joined New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and was very active as President of the Usher Board, Finance Secretary, Church Clerk, etc. she wore many hats, but she truly loved being an Usher. She left New Birth, to join Perris St. John Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor Aircey Hayes, Sr. 

March 9, 2013, she moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota with her son TSgt. James Ellison and family.  On March 23rd, she started work for MVW Services at Grand Forks Air Force Base.  She supervised clients with disabilities until she had a stroke on October 17, 2013.  Even though the stroke altered Doris’ life, it didn’t stop her from staying engaged in the church and assisting where she could.

Doris thoroughly enjoyed sports throughout High School, pool as a young adult and later puzzles and watching crime tv. Above all she was loved and cherished by her entire family and friends. She welcomed everyone with open arms, helped any and every one, and always thought of others first. Doris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose precious memory will live on forever!

Sister Ellison is preceded in death by her parents, Artis & Hattie Griffin; brothers, Larry Griffin, Jesse Griffin and sister, Vivian Daniels

Surviving is her husband Douglas Ellison of 36 years; sons, Romain Dillard (Monica), Cinque Dillard, James Ellison (Jennifer), Jason Ellison (Ericka), Dominique Nichols; daughter, Audrey Crenshaw (Davion). A wealth of grandchildren and great grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, church family and friends.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 4:00pm until 5:00pm at Richard Funeral Services Chapel. The Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 5:00pm at Richard Funeral Services Chapel 233 North 9th Street Haines City, FL 33844.
