Dr. Bageshwari Prasad Sinha, aged 85, passed away on July 6, 2024, in Poinciana, Florida. Born on July 1,
1939, in Patna, India, he led a life marked by dedication to his profession, his family, and his community.
Bageshwari married Achla Sinha on June 1, 1963 and soon after immigrated to the United States where
he spent the bulk of his years in Michigan. It was in Michigan, an unfamiliar place in an unfamiliar
country, that he raised his four children alongside his devoted wife, excelled in his professional career,
worshipped, and enjoyed strong relationships with an extended community. Bageshwari was an
exemplary father and human being. He embodied the best qualities: endless love, strength of spirit, and
an unending generosity to all who found themselves in need.
Dr. Sinha completed his education in Patna, India, before pursuing his MD and Master of Surgery at
Prince of Wales Medical College. His professional journey began with a residency in Urology, followed by
roles as an educator at Wayne State University, a private practice in Allen Park, Michigan, and finally at
the Dublin VA in Georgia. His groundbreaking work earned awards for his publications, showcasing his
commitment to medical innovation. A pivotal moment came with his development of a modern form of
kidney transplantation, setting a new standard for organ preservation methods. Though spare time in
the lab was rare, it certainly did not go to waste. It was here that he used a Bunsen burner to perfect his
signature recipe: his Mexican Pizza.
He was a committed member and founding father of the Bharatiya Temple in Troy, Michigan, and
cherished the freedom to practice Hinduism both near and far: whether it be his daily worship at home
or elsewhere during one of his travels. During his regular pilgrimages back to his home country of India,
he spent time visiting with family, volunteering at hospitals for the underprivileged, and exploring Hindu
temples. He found peace in gardening, reading, fishing, exploring Hindu philosophy, studying financial
institutions, and buying fine automobiles. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and
engaging in long conversations.
His friends and family will especially miss him not only for the wisdom he imparted on them, but also for
the jokes that he told (and perhaps only he understood!). Bageshwari is survived by his wife of 61 years,
Achla Sinha, and their children Anvita Sinha, Anupam Sinha, and Amrita Sinha. He was also a cherished
grandfather to Arya Sinha Newberry. His siblings, Mithilesh K. Sinha, Nilima Sinha, and Akhileshwar K.
Sinha, along with numerous nieces and nephews will remember him fondly. He was preceded in death
by his son Anshuman Sinha, and his parents Anjir Narain and Sukhdev Narain.
Services to honor his life will be held Monday, July 8 at Richard Funeral Services in Haines City, FL.
Sharadh Puja will be held at home on Thursday, July 18. In lieu of flowers, donations may be gifted to
The American Lung Association. Bageshwari's life was a beacon of knowledge, compassion, and
integrity, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.
