John R. Jones

John R. Jones, Sr., age 85, passed away on September 24, 2022. He was born to the late George Jones and Elizabeth Stokes Jones on May 29, 1937 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He attended Bridgeport Public Schools and graduated from Central High School. He was a member of Messiah Baptist Church, where his aunt Aida was one of its earliest members. A young John enlisted in the Marine Corp when he was just 17 years old. He served in Puerto Rico from 1954 - 1958. John was employed as a security guard at Sikorsky Aircraft for twenty years, retiring in 1999. He served in the national guard for 13 years and was an EMT. John was a quintessential family man. He and his wife Arlene spent many weekends and evenings at sporting events with their sons, fishing trips with their daughters, and countless cookouts at Seaside Park with his immediate and extended families. He loved his extended Blackwell Family and served as an Elder of the family. He attended and hosted family reunions for many years. He had a lifetime of friendship with the late Alonzo Wright.
