Phyllis Thompson, a cherished mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, in Kissimmee, Florida. Born on April 28, 1954, in Portland, Jamaica, West Indies, Phyllis's journey through life was marked by resilience, kindness, and an unwavering dedication to her family.
Her career spanned more than three decades, during which she made a significant impact at McDonald's, where she devoted 20 years of service, followed by a fulfilling decade at Publix, from which she retired. Phyllis was known not only for her hard work but also for the warmth and joy she brought into the lives of those around her.
An avid gardener, Phyllis found solace and satisfaction in nurturing plants, tending to her flowers, and creating beauty in her surroundings. This passion mirrored her nurturing spirit—one that enriched the lives of her family and friends.
Phyllis leaves behind a loving family, including her daughters, Novlette Wilson and Colette Wilson; her son, Marlon Baker; and daughter-in-law, Tamara “Stacey” Kirkland. She was a proud grandmother to Shadae Baker, Sasha Mc Alphin, Tiovania “Saria” Baker, Ashleigh Mc Alphin, Ovante Baker, Ovane Baker, Ovaughn Baker, Tristan Harris, Isiah Baker, and Nala Baker. The light of her life was further brightened by her great-grandson, Tyrone Morton III. Her familial bond extended to her beloved grandmother, Oquany Baker.
In addition to her immediate family, Phyllis is survived by her beloved siblings—Lilith “Julian” Fisher, Anthony “Rocka” Thompson, Dorothy Thompson, Joseph “Buckey” Thompson, and Maxine and Stepheny Thompson. Her deep and lasting friendships with Annick Coleman and Diane Brown, who are like sisters to her, were also a treasured part of her life.
Phyllis’s legacy will be lovingly honored in a Celebration of Life on January 25, 2025, commencing at 12:30 PM at Richard Funeral Services, located at 233 N. 9th Street, Haines City, FL 33844. Following the celebration, a Graveside Service will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery, beginning at 3:30 PM at 2646 E. Grace Avenue, Haines City, FL 33844.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David Thompson and Jane Mitchell, and by her sister, Yvette Doyley. Though she has departed from this earth, the love she shared and the lives she touched will forever remain a testament to her spirit. She will be missed dearly, but her memories will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
